Sabaton Release 'The War to End All Wars'

Every now and again, the stars align, and things happen at exactly the right moment. That appears to be the case here, as Sabaton releases their latest offering, 'The War to End All Wars' today, amidst the greatest European conflict the world has seen in generations.

For those that may not be familiar, the subject matter of war and conflicts is nothing new to Sabaton. Every song is a musical journey through a historical conflict. Today's release is no exception, but perhaps provides a cathartic way for their listeners to feel connected to a war that is raging overseas that seems so incredibly wrong. While we soldier on with life here in the US, heroes are being forged daily in Ukraine as the country is standing up to Russia in ways previously thought unimaginable. I can only imagine the songs that will be written about this conflict, but let's dive into what we have before us today!

On this album, Sabaton dives right back into World War I, having so much material left to cover after the prior album, 2019's 'The Great War' took a first pass at the same conflict. This time around, there are fantastic tunes. For anyone looking to sample a taste of what Sabaton is offering up, I'd recommend a listen to "Stormtroopers," "The Unkillable Soldier," "Soldier of Heaven" or "Christmas Truce."

The band states:

"With our last album, 'The Great War,' we found that we had only scratched the surface in terms of the powerful stories of courage and bravery and also the horrors that took place during the first World War. Fans would contact us and tell us these amazing stories from World War One that none of us had ever heard of before. Incredible, human tales like the British and German soldiers who put down their weapons on Christmas Eve in 1914 to share a moment of peace and reconciliation, right there on the battlefield; or the brave soldiers who fought in the White War, some 12,000 feet up in the Alps, who froze to death and whose bodies remain under the snow to this day. These are magnificent stories about everyday people who were willing to give their lives for something that was bigger than themselves. Marrying these true tales to loud, bruising, bone tingling heavy metal? Adding a second chapter to one the most frightening and liberating times in history? Why wouldn’t we make this album?"

To celebrate the release, SABATON releases a video for their fourth single "Race To The Sea". 'Race To The Sea' is a song about the decision from Albert of Belgium during WW1 to flood the last part of Belgium and with the help of water prevent all of Belgium to fall into German hands.

I've been listening to these guys for a long time now, and I've had the opportunity to see them live on multiple occasions ranging from a small club to a massive festival stage. Admittedly, this kind of music hits different at the moment. I can't wait for a chance to see this band on tour again soon. Give their new album a listen and check below for all of the different formats that are available.
